Use the APN as a controlled test, not a guess
This guide focuses on the Verizon profile for the United States. Verizon uses carrier profiles extensively, so the APN menu may be hidden or greyed out on many devices.
If your phone already has a carrier profile, the APN is managed automatically. Only create a manual APN if you are using a non-Verizon phone or an unlocked device.
APN fields
Verizon US APN starting point
| Field | Value | Use this note |
|---|---|---|
| Name (Internet) | Verizon Internet | This is only a label inside your phone. |
| APN | vzwinternet | Main value for Verizon 4G LTE and 5G data. |
| APN type | default, supl | Use only if the field exists. |
| Protocol | IPv4/IPv6 or device default | Keep the device default when unsure. |
| Username and password | Not set | Verizon does not require username or password. |
| MCC | 310 | Verify with your SIM card info. |
| MNC | 004 | Verify with your SIM card info. |
| MMSC | http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms | For MMS configuration. |
On many Verizon phones the APN settings are locked by the carrier profile. If you cannot edit the APN, the profile is managed over-the-air and no manual change is needed.

Full setup and troubleshooting notes
Before changing the APN
Verizon is unique among US carriers in that it heavily relies on over-the-air carrier profiles. On most Verizon-branded phones, the APN settings are locked and cannot be manually edited. This is normal and does not indicate a problem.
If you are using an unlocked phone, a non-Verizon-branded device, or a Verizon MVNO SIM, you may need to set the APN manually. In that case, use `vzwinternet` as the APN value.
What to enter first
If the APN field is editable, set the profile name, enter `vzwinternet`, save and select it. Leave all other fields at their default. Verizon does not require a username or password.
On Android: Settings, Network and Internet, SIMs, Access Point Names. On iPhone: Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data Network.
Testing your connection
After saving, disable WiFi, toggle airplane mode on for ten seconds, and test in a browser.

Final checks if the APN does not work
- On Verizon-branded phones, check that the carrier profile is installed and up to date.
- On unlocked phones, confirm the APN is set to vzwinternet.
- Confirm that the SIM is the selected data line on dual-SIM phones.
- Check that the data plan is active and not blocked by a spending cap.
- Test outside or near a window to separate APN problems from weak signal.

What APN does Verizon use for hotspot?
The same APN vzwinternet works for hotspot on most plans. Some older plans may use a separate APN.
