Use the APN as a controlled test, not a guess
This guide focuses on the AT&T profile for the United States. It keeps the setup short so you can test whether the APN is the real cause before changing sensitive fields.
AT&T uses different APN values for its own brand and for MVNOs that ride on its network. Make sure you use the value that matches your SIM.

AT&T Wholesale / MVNO partners may use att.mvno or nxtgenphone as the APN. Check your SIM documentation if the standard values do not work.

Setup steps
- Identify whether you have an AT&T-branded SIM or an MVNO SIM riding on AT&T's network.
- Open the mobile network settings and find Access Point Names or Cellular Data Network.
- Create or edit the AT&T US profile and enter the correct APN value.
- Save the profile, select it if your phone asks, then disable WiFi for the test.
- Toggle airplane mode for ten seconds and open a browser before testing apps or hotspot.

Before changing the APN
Use this page when an AT&T US SIM is active but mobile data does not browse. AT&T uses different APN values depending on the type of SIM.
APN by SIM type
- AT&T postpaid and most prepaid: `phone`
- AT&T MVNOs (e.g. Cricket Wireless, H2O Wireless, FreeUP): `att.mvno` or `nxtgenphone`
- AT&T FirstNet (first responders): May use a dedicated APN
If you are using an MVNO, check the SIM documentation or the MVNO's support page for the correct APN value.
What to enter first
For AT&T postpaid, set the profile name, enter `phone` as the APN, save and select it. Leave all other fields at their default. AT&T does not require a username or password for most plans.
On Android: Settings, Network and Internet, SIMs, Access Point Names. On iPhone: Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data Network.
Testing your connection
After saving, disable WiFi, toggle airplane mode on for ten seconds, and test in a browser.

- Confirm you are using the correct APN for your SIM type (AT&T vs MVNO).
- Confirm that the SIM is the selected data line on dual-SIM phones.
- Check that the data plan is active and not blocked by a spending cap.
- Test outside or near a window to separate APN problems from weak signal.
- Pause VPN, private DNS or device management for one controlled test.

What APN does AT&T use for 5G?
AT&T uses the same APN for 5G as for 4G LTE: phone. No separate 5G APN is needed.
Does AT&T require a username and password for APN?
No. Most AT&T plans do not require any username or password for mobile data.
What APN should I use if my SIM is from Cricket or another AT&T MVNO?
Cricket and most AT&T MVNOs use att.mvno or nxtgenphone as the APN. Check your MVNO's documentation.
What is the AT&T APN for hotspot or tethering?
The same APN phone usually works for hotspot. Some plans may restrict hotspot separately from data.
