T-Mobile US

T-Mobile APN settings

Set the T-Mobile US data profile with the smallest safe change: APN `fast.t-mobile.com`, device defaults for hidden fields, then a controlled mobile data test.

Use the APN as a controlled test, not a guess

This guide focuses on the T-Mobile profile for the United States. It keeps the setup short so you can test whether the APN is the real cause before changing sensitive fields.

If your phone already has a carrier profile, compare it first. A duplicate APN can make Android select the wrong profile, while iPhone may hide the APN menu completely when carrier settings control it.

APN fields

T-Mobile US APN starting point

Field Value Use this note
Name (Internet) T-Mobile US This is only a label inside your phone.
APN fast.t-mobile.com Main value to test first. Older plans may use epc.tmobile.com or wap.voicestream.com.
APN type default, supl Use only if the field exists and the phone accepts it.
Protocol IPv4/IPv6 or device default Keep the device default when unsure.
Username and password Not set Most T-Mobile plans do not require a username or password.
MCC 310 Verify with your SIM card info.
MNC 260 Verify with your SIM card info.
MMSC http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc For MMS configuration.
MMS proxy Leave empty on most devices.

T-Mobile merged with Sprint and some migrated SIMs may still use legacy APN values. If your exact SIM documentation gives a different value, use the plan-specific value.

Setup

Setup steps

  1. Open the mobile network settings and find Access Point Names or Cellular Data Network.
  2. Create or edit the T-Mobile US profile and enter the APN value exactly as shown.
  3. Save the profile, select it if your phone asks, then disable WiFi for the test.
  4. Toggle airplane mode for ten seconds and open a browser before testing apps or hotspot.

Full setup and troubleshooting notes

Before changing the APN

Use this page when a T-Mobile US SIM is active but mobile data does not browse, apps stay offline, hotspot sharing fails, or the phone lost its profile after a network reset. The first rule is to make the smallest useful change. An APN profile controls how the phone reaches the packet data gateway, but many fields are filled by the SIM, the operating system, or the carrier profile already stored on the device. Editing every field at once can make a simple problem harder to diagnose.

For T-Mobile US, start with `fast.t-mobile.com` as the APN value. This is the default for most current plans. If your account was migrated from Sprint, legacy Metro by T-Mobile, or a T-Mobile MVNO, your profile may need a different value.

Alternative APN values

If fast.t-mobile.com does not work on your device, some plans also accept these values: - `epc.tmobile.com` — legacy T-Mobile APN, still used on some older SIMs - `wap.voicestream.com` — very old T-Mobile / Voicestream APN

What to enter first

The practical setup for T-Mobile US is intentionally short. Set the profile name to something you will recognize later, enter `fast.t-mobile.com` in the APN field, save the profile and select it. Leave username and password empty. If MCC and MNC are visible, do not rewrite them by hand unless the phone refuses to save the APN without them.

On Android, the menu is usually Settings, Network and Internet, SIMs, Access Point Names. Samsung and other vendors may call the same area Connections, Mobile networks, Access Point Names. On iPhone, open Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data Network and edit the APN field under Cellular Data.

Testing your connection

After saving the APN, disable WiFi and toggle airplane mode on for ten seconds. Open a browser and load a simple page. If it loads, test messaging, streaming, and hotspot one at a time. If it does not load, the problem may not be the APN: check signal strength, SIM status, roaming settings, data cap, and VPN or private DNS.

Before calling support

Final checks if the APN does not work

  • Confirm that the SIM is the selected data line on dual-SIM phones.
  • Check that the data plan is active and not blocked by a spending cap.
  • Remove duplicate APNs only after recording the original values.
  • Test outside or near a window to separate APN problems from weak signal.
  • Pause VPN, private DNS or device management for one controlled test.

Questions

T-Mobile APN questions

Should I change every T-Mobile APN field?

No. Change the APN value first and keep hidden network fields on their current defaults unless your carrier gives exact values for your plan.

What APN does T-Mobile use for 5G?

T-Mobile 5G uses the same APN as 4G LTE: fast.t-mobile.com. No separate 5G APN is needed.

Does T-Mobile use a username and password for APN?

No. Most T-Mobile plans do not require any username or password for internet access.

What is the T-Mobile APN for hotspot or tethering?

The same APN fast.t-mobile.com usually works for hotspot. Some plans may have a separate tethering APN, but test regular data first.

My T-Mobile SIM was from Sprint, what APN should I use?

Try fast.t-mobile.com first. If that does not work, use the legacy Sprint APN which may still be provisioned on your migrated line.
