Available balance check methods
MTN Nigeria prepaid customers can check their balance using USSD codes, the MyMTN app, or the MTN self-care portal. USSD codes are the fastest method and work on any phone without an internet connection.
MTN has dedicated codes for main airtime balance, data balance, bonus balance, and SME data plans.

How to check your MTN balance
- Open your phone dialer.
- Dial *310# for main balance or *131*4# for data balance.
- Press the call button and wait for the USSD response.
- Your balance or data allowance will display automatically on screen.
- For MyMTN app: download from Play Store or App Store, register with your MTN number, and view the full dashboard.

- `*310#`: The main balance check code. It shows your current airtime balance in NGN, plan validity, and gives a menu to check data, bonus, and other services.
- `*131*4#`: Direct data balance check. Displays your remaining high-speed data in MB or GB and the expiry date of your active data plan.
- `*131*6#`: Bonus balance check. Shows active bonus allowances (bonus airtime, bonus data, bonus SMS) that came with your recharge.
- `*461#`: SME data balance. For MTN SME data plan subscribers, this checks the remaining SME data allocation.
- `*131#`: Full data services menu. From here you can check balances, buy data plans, and manage subscriptions.

The MyMTN app (Android and iOS) provides a complete account management experience: real-time balance, data usage graph, data plan subscription, airtime recharge, bill payment, and customer support.
Data balance vs airtime balance
MTN maintains two separate balances: - Airtime balance (check with *310#): Your main prepaid credit in Naira, which can be used for voice calls, SMS, and data when you have an active plan. - Data balance (check with *131*4#): Your remaining internet data in MB/GB, tied to your active data plan or monthly subscription.
Bonus balance
When you recharge MTN, you often receive bonus airtime, bonus data, or bonus SMS. Dial *131*6# to check these bonus balances, as they may have different validity periods from your main balance.
Troubleshooting
- Ensure your phone is connected to the MTN network (check the carrier name).
- Roaming: USSD codes may not be available outside Nigeria. Use the MyMTN app over WiFi instead.
- If USSD codes do not respond, restart your phone and try again.
- If you recently recharged, wait up to 30 minutes for the balance to update before checking.
