Use the right APN for Google Fi — h2g2 is the primary value
This guide covers the Google Fi profile for the United States. Google Fi uses a unique network-switching technology that connects to T-Mobile, US Cellular, and partner networks. The primary APN is h2g2.
Google Fi is designed as a SIM/eSIM service and on most compatible phones the APN is configured automatically. If your data works out of the box, you do not need to change anything.
Manual APN configuration is needed when using an unlocked phone, after a network reset, or when switching from another carrier without re-activating the Fi SIM.

On Google-Fi-compatible phones (Pixels, Moto G series, iPhones with Fi app), the APN is configured automatically. If the APN menu is greyed out, the profile is managed over the air and no manual change is needed.

Setup steps for Android
- Open Settings, tap Network & Internet, then SIMs or Mobile Network.
- Select your Google Fi SIM and tap Access Point Names.
- If the APN menu is greyed out, Google Fi is managing the profile automatically — no changes needed.
- Tap the + icon to create a new APN, or edit the existing Fi profile.
- Enter h2g2 as the APN value. Set the APN type to default,supl,mms.
- Leave all other fields at their default. Do not set a username or password.
- Save the profile, select it if your phone asks, then disable WiFi for the test.
- Toggle airplane mode for ten seconds and open a browser before testing apps or hotspot.

- Open Settings, tap Cellular, then Cellular Data Network.
- If you have an eSIM, tap the Google Fi line under Cellular Plans first.
- Enter h2g2 in the APN field for cellular data.
- Leave the username and password fields blank. Google Fi does not use them.
- For MMS, enter http://mmsc.pmts.fi.google.com/mmsc in the MMSC field if visible.
- Go back, disable WiFi, toggle airplane mode and test in Safari.

Before changing the APN
Google Fi is a network-switching MVNO that uses T-Mobile, US Cellular, and partner networks. On most Fi-compatible phones the APN is configured automatically through a carrier profile. If your data works out of the box, you do not need to change anything.
If you are using an unlocked phone, a phone bought from another carrier, or a device that does not receive Google Fi carrier settings, you may need to set the APN manually.
APN value
Google Fi uses h2g2 as its primary APN. This APN works across all partner networks. There is no separate APN for T-Mobile, US Cellular, or roaming partners — the network switching happens at the carrier level.
eSIM setup
Google Fi supports eSIM on compatible iPhones and Android devices. When you activate a Google Fi eSIM, the carrier profile and APN are installed automatically. Manual APN editing is rarely needed with eSIM. If you run into issues, try toggling the eSIM off and on in Settings before editing the APN.
Hotspot configuration
Google Fi includes mobile hotspot on most plans. The same h2g2 APN works for hotspot. If hotspot does not work, edit the APN type to include ,dun (so it reads default,supl,mms,dun) and save.
Network switching
Google Fi automatically switches between T-Mobile, US Cellular, and roaming partner networks. The APN settings remain the same regardless of which network your phone is connected to. If you are in an area where one network has poor coverage, your phone should automatically switch to a better one.
Testing your connection
After saving the APN, disable WiFi, toggle airplane mode for ten seconds, and test in a browser. If data works but MMS does not, check the MMSC value. If neither works, confirm your Google Fi account is active and your phone is compatible with the Fi network.
