Vodafone Ireland APN settings

Before changing the APN

Use this page when a Vodafone Ireland SIM is active but mobile data does not browse, apps stay offline, hotspot sharing fails, or the phone lost its profile after a network reset. The first rule is to make the smallest useful change. An APN profile controls how the phone reaches the packet data gateway, but many fields are filled by the SIM, the operating system, or the carrier profile already stored on the device. Editing every field at once can make a simple problem harder to diagnose.

For Ireland, start with a readable profile name and the APN value shown below: `live.vodafone.ie`. If your SIM pack, account screen, device configuration SMS, or carrier support channel gives a different value for your exact plan, use that plan-specific value. Prepaid, postpaid, reseller, roaming and data-only SIMs can behave differently even when the carrier name looks the same.

Vodafone Ireland uses live.vodafone.ie for most plans. Consumer SIMs may also use internet.

Alternative APN value

If live.vodafone.ie does not work on your device, some plans also accept `internet` as the APN value. This is common for older SIMs or specific plan types.

What to enter first

The practical setup for Vodafone Ireland is intentionally short. Set the profile name to something you will recognize later, enter `live.vodafone.ie` in the APN field, save the profile and select it. Leave username, password, proxy, port, server, MMSC, MMS proxy and MMS port empty unless your device already contains a value or your carrier has provided one for your plan. If MCC and MNC are visible, do not rewrite them by hand unless the phone refuses to save the APN without them.

On Android, the menu is usually Settings, Network and Internet, SIMs, Access Point Names. Samsung and other vendors may call the same area Connections, Mobile networks, Access Point Names. On iPhone, open Settings, Cellular or Mobile Data, Cellular Data Network. Some iPhones hide APN editing when the carrier profile controls it; in that case a carrier settings update or a SIM refresh may be needed instead of manual editing.

Android setup path

For Android, open the APN list and check whether an existing Vodafone Ireland profile is already selected. If it exists, compare it before adding a duplicate. If the APN field shows a value, write it down before editing. Create a new APN when the current profile does not match your carrier, when no profile exists, or after a network reset clears the list. Enter the profile name and APN value from the table above, then leave all remaining fields on their default values. Some Android vendor skins add extra fields such as Bearer or MVNO type; keep those on Unspecified and None unless your carrier documentation specifies them.

iPhone setup path

iPhone APN settings are under Settings, Cellular or Mobile Data, Cellular Data Network. After entering the APN, username and password from the table above, scroll to the MMS section if you plan to send picture messages. Unlike Android, iPhones do not let you name the profile; the device uses the carrier name automatically. If the APN menu is missing entirely, it means the carrier profile from Vodafone Ireland controls the settings and manual editing is not possible. In that case, check for carrier settings updates in Settings, General, About.

Testing after setup

After saving the APN, disable WiFi completely. Toggle airplane mode on for ten seconds then off to force the phone to re-register on the network. Open a browser and load a simple page before testing apps, hotspot, or MMS. If an app shows offline while the browser works, the app settings, not the APN, are the problem. If nothing loads, move through the checklist below before changing any APN field again.

For dual-SIM phones, confirm that the Vodafone Ireland SIM is set as the primary data line. The other SIM may be on a different carrier with its own APN, and Android may try the wrong profile when both SIMs are active.
