Use the APN as a controlled test, not a guess

This guide focuses on the Rogers profile for Canada. Rogers uses carrier profiles on many devices, so the APN menu may be hidden or greyed out on branded phones.

If your phone already has a carrier profile, the APN is managed automatically. Only create a manual APN if you are using a non-Rogers phone or an unlocked device.

APN fields

Rogers Canada APN starting point

Field Value Use this note
Name (Internet) Rogers This is only a label inside your phone.
APN rogers-core-appl1.apn Main value for Rogers 4G LTE and 5G data.
Alternative APN internet.com Legacy APN, still works on some plans.
Username (alt) wapuser1 Required only for internet.com APN.
Password (alt) wap Required only for internet.com APN.
APN type default, supl, mms Use only if the field exists and the phone accepts it.
Protocol IPv4/IPv6 or device default Keep the device default when unsure.
MCC 302 Verify with your SIM card info.
MNC 720 Verify with your SIM card info.
MMSC http://mms.gprs.rogers.com For MMS configuration.
MMS proxy 10.128.1.69 For MMS on some devices.
MMS port 80 For MMS on some devices.

On many Rogers-branded phones the APN settings are locked by the carrier profile. If you cannot edit the APN, the profile is managed over-the-air and no manual change is needed.

Setup

Setup steps

  1. Open the mobile network settings and find Access Point Names or Cellular Data Network.
  2. If the APN menu is greyed out, Rogers is managing the profile automatically — no changes needed.
  3. Create or edit the Rogers profile and enter the APN value exactly as shown.
  4. Save the profile, select it if your phone asks, then disable WiFi for the test.
  5. Toggle airplane mode for ten seconds and open a browser before testing apps or hotspot.

Full setup and troubleshooting notes

Before changing the APN

Use this page when a Rogers Canada SIM is active but mobile data does not browse, apps stay offline, hotspot sharing fails, or the phone lost its profile after a network reset. The first rule is to make the smallest useful change. An APN profile controls how the phone reaches the packet data gateway, but many fields are filled by the SIM, the operating system, or the carrier profile already stored on the device.

Rogers relies on over-the-air carrier profiles on branded phones. On most Rogers-branded devices, the APN settings are locked and cannot be manually edited. This is normal and does not indicate a problem.

If you are using an unlocked phone, a non-Rogers-branded device, or a Rogers MVNO (like Fido or Chatr), you may need to set the APN manually.

What to enter first

The recommended APN for current Rogers 4G LTE and 5G plans is `rogers-core-appl1.apn`. Leave username and password blank. If your device requires a username and password, try the legacy APN `internet.com` with username `wapuser1` and password `wap`.

On Android, the menu is usually Settings, Network and Internet, SIMs, Access Point Names. Samsung and other vendors may call the same area Connections, Mobile networks, Access Point Names. On iPhone, open Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data Network.

Testing your connection

After saving the APN, disable WiFi and toggle airplane mode on for ten seconds. Open a browser and load a simple page. If it loads, test messaging, streaming, and hotspot one at a time. If it does not load, the problem may not be the APN: check signal strength, SIM status, and data plan balance.

Roaming with Rogers Canada

If you travel outside Canada with a Rogers SIM, data roaming must be enabled. Rogers includes roaming in many plans through Roam Like Home. The same APN `rogers-core-appl1.apn` or `internet.com` works on roaming partner networks.

Before calling support

Final checks if the APN does not work

  • On Rogers-branded phones, check that the carrier profile is installed and up to date.
  • On unlocked phones, confirm the APN is set to rogers-core-appl1.apn or internet.com.
  • Confirm that the SIM is the selected data line on dual-SIM phones.
  • Check that the data plan is active and not blocked by a spending cap.
  • Test outside or near a window to separate APN problems from weak signal.
  • Pause VPN, private DNS or device management for one controlled test.
