Know your SIM type before entering the APN
BT Italia operates two SIM types in Italy: consumer mobile lines (branded BT Italia/BT Enia) and business lines that run on the TIM network. Each uses a different APN value.
Check your SIM pack or account dashboard to confirm which type you have. If you are unsure, try apn.btitalia.it first — it is the most common APN for direct BT Italia consumer SIMs.

Business SIMs on TIM infrastructure may use ibox.tim.it. Some older BT Enia consumer SIMs also accept apn.btitalia.it. If neither works, check with BT Italia support for your exact plan.

Setup steps
- Open the mobile network settings and find Access Point Names or Cellular Data Network.
- Create or edit the BT Italia profile and enter the APN value matching your SIM type.
- Leave username and password blank unless your documentation specifies them.
- Save the profile, select it if your phone asks, then disable WiFi for the test.
- Toggle airplane mode for ten seconds and open a browser before testing apps or hotspot.

Before changing the APN
Use this page when a BT Italia SIM is active but mobile data does not browse, apps stay offline, hotspot sharing fails, or the phone lost its profile after a network reset. Start with the APN value and keep hidden network fields on their current defaults unless your carrier gives exact values for your plan.
Consumer vs business SIMs
BT Italia consumer lines are direct BT-branded mobile services. These use the APN apn.btitalia.it with no username or password.
BT Italia business lines (especially those resold on the TIM network) may use ibox.tim.it as the APN. If your SIM was issued as part of a corporate or enterprise plan, this is the more likely value.
If neither APN works after testing, check whether your plan includes mobile data at all. Some BT Italia voice-only plans do not have data provisioning.
Android setup path
Open Settings, Network and Internet, SIMs, Access Point Names. Check whether a BT Italia or TIM profile already exists. If it does, compare the APN value before adding a duplicate. If the existing profile is blank or from another carrier, add a new APN with the matching APN value listed above. Save from the three-dot menu, select the new profile, then test with WiFi off.
iPhone setup path
Open Settings, Cellular or Mobile Data, Cellular Data Network. Enter the APN value matching your SIM type. Leave username and password blank. If the Cellular Data Network screen is hidden, carrier settings control the APN — install any available carrier settings update from Settings, General, About before editing manually.
Testing
After saving, toggle airplane mode for ten seconds, disable WiFi, and open a lightweight web page. If data works, test apps that previously failed. If only some apps fail, check VPN, private DNS, or app permissions before assuming the APN is wrong.
If data does not work at all, check that mobile data is enabled, the BT Italia SIM is selected as the data SIM on dual-SIM phones, your data plan is active, and signal strength is adequate.
