Airalo eSIMs configure themselves — only change the APN if data does not work

Airalo sells data-only eSIMs for international travel. When you install an Airalo eSIM, the APN is configured automatically from the eSIM profile. In most cases you do not need to enter anything manually.

Manual APN configuration is only needed if the eSIM profile does not set the APN correctly, or if you are using an older device that requires manual setup.

The most common Airalo APN is airalo.com. Some regional eSIMs use a different APN — check your eSIM installation guide.

Guide

Full setup and troubleshooting notes

Before changing the APN

Airalo eSIMs are designed to work without manual configuration. When you scan the QR code or install the eSIM profile, the APN and network settings are installed automatically.

If data does not work after installation, the issue is usually not the APN. First check: the eSIM is turned on in Settings, the eSIM is selected for cellular data, and data roaming is enabled if you are outside your home country.

APN values

The standard Airalo APN is airalo.com. Some regional eSIMs (Discover+, local eSIMs) may use different APN values. Check the eSIM installation instructions in your Airalo app or email.

Data-only eSIM limitations

Airalo eSIMs are data-only. They do not support: - Voice calls (except some Discover+ eSIMs that include a local number) - SMS text messages - MMS (picture messages)

Hotspot / tethering

Airalo eSIMs support hotspot on most packages where the device allows it. On iPhone, go to Settings, Cellular, tap the Airalo eSIM, and enable Allow Cellular Data Switching or Personal Hotspot. On Android, hotspot should work automatically.

Testing

After enabling the eSIM, make sure data roaming is on (required even in the destination country for some eSIMs) and disable WiFi. Toggle airplane mode for ten seconds and test in a browser.

Quick diagnostics

Checks if Airalo data does not work

  • Confirm the Airalo eSIM is turned on in Settings.
  • Make sure the Airalo eSIM is selected for mobile data.
  • Enable data roaming (required for most Airalo eSIMs).
  • If roaming does not fix it, toggle airplane mode for 10 seconds.
  • Restart the phone to refresh network registration.
  • Check your Airalo eSIM has not expired or run out of data.
